KANSAS CITY, KAN.—Kansas Farmers Union (KFU) President Donn Teske was one of the speakers at Farm Aid’s announcement of their annual concert Wednesday.
Farm Aid’s Executive Director Carolyn Mugar announced that Farm Aid’s annual concert will take place on Aug. 13 at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park in Kansas City, Kan. The concert will feature Farm Aid board members Willie Nelson, Neil Young, John Mellencamp and Dave Matthews, along with other performers to be announced.
According to farmaid.org, “Farm Aid board members headline a Farm Aid concert to bring together a wide variety of musicians, farmers and fans for one mission: keeping family farmers on their land.”
“Farm Aid and Kansas Farmers Union are allies, both working to keep the family farmer on the land, providing healthy food for everyone and strengthening the backbone of rural America,” Teske said.
Teske, along with Governor Sam Brownback, Kansas City’s Mayor Joe Reardon, Farm Aid’s Executive Director Carolyn Mugar and Katherine Kelly with Kansas City Center for Urban Agriculture, expressed their excitement for Farm Aid to be in Kansas.
Teske said when Farm Aid first started in 1985 he “wondered if anyone even cared about farmers, now there’s a concert in our honor, how cool.”
“This is a message that vibrated across rural America and it brought hope at that time,” Teske said. “It’s events like these that help keep some family farmers going.”
Kansas Farmers Union is excited to participate in the Farm Aid concert and will be providing some tickets to its’ members. Farmers Union members can get their tickets by calling 620-241-6630 or e-mail kfu.lauren@gmail.com. Tickets go on sale May 20 on ticketmaster.com.
