COTTONWOOD FALLS—Kansas Farmers Union board members hosted a retirement party for Emil Mushrush on April 11 at Cottonwood Falls Country Club, one of his favorite places.    KFU members, Farmers Union agents, Emil’s family and other friends of Emil enjoyed lunch, golf, riding golf carts and visiting with friends.

“Emil’s party was a lots of fun. It was great to visit with everyone. I enjoyed the round of golf also,” said Lavern Potuzak, KFU board of directors.

Emil retired as Kansas Farmers Union’s State Secretary on April 1, 2010 after 38 years.

“Emil’s party was a huge success and we want to thank everyone who attended, sent cards or telephoned with good wishes,” Jerri Mushrush said. “Farmers Union has been an integral part of Emil’s life for many years and he’s truly enjoyed all the great experiences he’s had and the nice people he’s met along the way.”

Emil started at Farmers Union as an insurance agent for Marion and Chase Counties in 1972.    He served as a fieldman, director of field services, office and communications director and state secretary.

“It has been an honor and privilege to know and work with all of you,” Emil said. “You Farmers Union members are good, honest and hard working people that are the salt of the Earth! My wife Jerri and I plan to stay invlolved as members. We look forward to our years together in retirement and have a bunch of good memories from Farmers Union!”

Emil’s duties have been taken over by Lauren DeMott, communications specialist, and Mary Howell, legislative specialist.

“As with any change an adjustment period is needed, but as far as I can tell this decision seems to be working out ok for both Emil and the KFU,” said Daryl Larson, KFU Vice President.
