Kansas Farmers Union members participate in Fly-In

Kansas Farmers Union members Daryl Larson, Val Larson, Nick Levendofsky, Donn Teske, Mary Howell and Lauren DeMott participated in the National Farmers Union Fly-In Sept. 12-15.

The group met with legislative staff at Senator Murray of Washington, Senator Rockefeller of West Virginia, Senator Roberts, Senator Brownback, Representative Moran, Representative Jenkins and Representative Tiahrt.

They also sat in on briefings at the USDA building, House and Senate agriculture committees and Dwight D Eisenhower building. At the USDA building they heard from Deputy Secretary of Agriculture Kathleen Merrigan, USDA Chief Economist Joseph Glauber, Deputy Under Secretary Michael Scuse and Under Secretary Edward Avalos.

At the White House briefing, held in the Dwight D Eisenhower building, several members of President Obama’s White House staff spoke to Fly-In participants, including Dave Lazarus, Senior Policy Advisor for Rural Affairs, Domestic Policy Council; Dan Utech, Advisor, Office of Energy and Climate Change; U.S. Trade Representative Ambassador Ron Kirk; and Nancy-Ann Min DeParle, Director of the White House Office of Health Reform.
