News stations across Kansas are reporting that Kansas Governor-elect Sam Brownback made an announcement today, naming some of his future cabinet members.

According to the Topeka Capitol-Journal, the following were appointed:

  • State Sen. Karen Brownlee, secretary of the Kansas Department of Labor.
  • State Rep. Pat George, secretary of the Kansas Department of Commerce.
  • Former state Sen. Nick Jordan, secretary of the Kansas Department of Revenue.
  • Deb Miller, a Democrat and the current secretary of the Kansas Department of Transportation.
  • Dale Rodman, secretary of the Kansas Department of Agriculture.
  • Steve Anderson, the governor’s budget director.

According to the Capital-Journal, “Rodman, 69, said he accepted appointment as agriculture secretary because he answer the call from Brownback. He operates a cattle ranch and farm near Toronto in southeast Kansas. He worked for Cargill for 37 years, retiring from the company in 2002. He has lived or worked in more than 30 countries.”

“He felt my background was good to help Kansas emphasize its agriculture and agriculture business,” he said, reports the Topeka Capital-Journal. “The Kansas Department of Agriculture has been de-emphasized for several years.”
