Passage of Energy Tax Prevention Act is Wrong Direction for the Country

7 04 2011

WASHINGTON (April 7, 2011) – National Farmers Union (NFU) President Roger Johnson issued the following statement following the U.S. House of Representatives’ passage of H.R. 910, the Energy Tax Prevention Act:

“NFU is disappointed that the House voted today to limit the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) authority to deal with significant air quality and climate change issues. NFU policy supports providing the opportunity for an additional revenue stream to farmers and ranchers that produce food, fiber and fuel for this country while mitigating carbon emissions through a comprehensive climate change bill.

“NFU policy also supports the Clean Air Act. What the U.S. truly needs is policy that provides clean, renewable energy and ways to address carbon that invest in rural America. Today’s vote takes our country in the opposite direction of where we should be going.”
